    Farmhouse Breakfast Sandwich

This post has been sponsored by Pepperidge Farm®. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Talk about waking up on the right side of the bed! This Farmhouse Breakfast Sandwich is the morning meal I dream about. Thick, buttery white bread, toasted to perfection and topped with savory ham, sharp cheddar, and ripe red tomato. Oh, and a fried egg. So I can officially call it breakfast. Keep reading to get all of the delicious details…

    The Ultimate Farmhouse Breakfast Sandwich

If you follow our blog, you already know I am on a mission to bring back breakfast to my family’s routine. Busy schedules have taken away the most important meal of our day. Frankly, not sure why. Somewhere along the way, we got it in our heads that we didn’t have time.

“We’ll grab something later”, we said.

Wrong. We skipped it. We got up; got dressed; grabbed the books, bags and backpacks; ran out the door without a moment to spare; and jumped into our day head first on an empty stomach. We didn’t grab anything later and by the time lunch rolled around, we found ourselves starving, running on empty, and eating junk.

The Farmhouse Breakfast Sandwich is a new beginning. We’ve made a yummy breakfast sandwich that is impossible to resist, no matter the rush. And we made it as homemade as possible with Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse® Butter Bread.

a loaf of Pepperidge farms bread next to sliced cheese and a tomato

Soft, rich, buttery, and wholesome, Farmhouse® Butter Bread tastes like it is fresh from the oven and is the perfect choice for our breakfast sandwiches.

This slow baked bread is the perfect size and thickness for cinnamon toast, too. (Extra butter, please.) And don’t get me started on the French toast. Think wholesome breakfast, lunch, and dinner when it comes to this soft bread.

To make the best Breakfast Sandwich ever…

Each package of Farmhouse Butter Bread will make 6 full-sized sandwiches. For this morning, we needed 3 sandwiches. Arrange the slices of bread on a baking sheet. Very lightly spread soft butter on both sides. This will help the bread brown evenly and be all toasty.

If you love your bread soft, you can skip this step. But I love lightly toasted bread for this sandwich idea. It turns a farmhouse breakfast of toast, ham, and egg into a portable sammie.

If you are making just one sandwich or are in a hurry, you can skip the buttering and use a toaster. To save some time, I simply preheated my oven when I got up. That way I could work on all three sandwiches at once. Plus…there’s cheddar involved.

    Ingredients Needed:

    • Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse® Butter Bread
    • Butter
    • Sharp cheddar cheese
    • Ham
    • Tomato
    • Eggs
    • Black pepper - to taste, optional

On half of the bread slices, layer sharp cheddar on top. This reminds me so much of the cheese toasts that I adored when I was a kid. Thick, homestyle bread with melted cheese…best thing ever, right?

    cheese melting on bread

While the bread and cheese are toasting in the oven, quickly heat slices of ham in a skillet. We used a cured, pre-cooked ham that was pre-sliced. This keeps it easy for busy mornings and is the perfect size for the bread.

How many slices do you want on your Farmhouse Breakfast Sandwich? Me? I’ll take three.

    ham and melted cheese

You could totally stop here if you want. With the golden-toasted bread, melty cheddar and sweet-salty ham, you’ve got yourself one heck of a Hot Ham + Cheese Sandwich.

But I promised you ripe tomatoes and fried eggs!

How to Make a Breakfast Sandwich:

    • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
    • Arrange the bread slices on baking sheet. Lightly spread half of the butter on both sides.
    • Layer the cheese slices on one piece of the bread. Toast the bread for 8 - 10 minutes until the bread is golden around the edges and the cheese is melted.
    • While the bread is toasting, heat ham in a skillet. When bread is finished, layer the ham slices on top of the cheese.
    • Top with tomato slices.
    • Cook the egg as desired (fried, scrambled) in the remaining butter in the same skillet you used for the ham. Carefully slide the egg on top of the sandwich.
    • Top with the other slice of bread. Slice the sandwich and serve.

Top the cheese and ham with fresh tomato slices and eggs made to order. In my family, everyone has their own preference. From over easy to soft scrambled, it is easy to crack an egg, cook to order, and slide it right on top of the sandwich.

Me? I went for the sunny side.

If this Farmhouse Breakfast Sandwich doesn’t make you want to eat breakfast, then we need to talk. Every bite is so comforting, so…simple, but so delicious. The bread is lightly crisp on the edges then soft in the center, the golden egg yolk drips over the tomato, ham and cheese.

I’m in love, ya’ll. In love with a sandwich.
