Next, get ready for a giggle-good spa day at home. That's right, we are making Unicorn Sugar Scrub in pretty pastels. Inspired by our new favorite Unicorn Magic Snack Pack Pudding Cups, this activity is soooo much fun. (And super easy, too!)
DIY Unicorn Sugar Scrub Recipe + Unicorn Magic Snack Packs
This post is all about the pretty. And the pretty yummy. When my daughter and I spied these limited time Unicorn Magic Snack Pack Pudding Cups at our local Walmart, we knew we had to have them. I mean, come on, unicorn pudding, ya'll.
Made with real milk and containing NO high fructose corn syrup, these pudding Snack Packs were perfect for our girls day plan. Plus, this mom got to indulge a little, too, because there are zero grams of trans fat per serving in these Unicorn Magic Snack Packs.
You can find these specially-marked Snack Packs in the pudding aisle at your local Walmart. They may be in a special display, so keep your eyes open. We found them on an end cap, and they were almost gone. So hurry! Anything made with "fairy dust" and "princess kisses" isn't going to last long.
Supplies Needed for this Sugar Scrub:
- White granulated sugar
- Coconut oil
- Essential oils
- Food coloring
- Bowls
- Spoons
- Measuring cup
- Jar or airtight storage container
The ingredients in this homemade sugar scrub are very easy to find. We used regular, white granulated sugar. Did you know sugar is a great exfoliant because it rubs away dried skin cells and leaves your skin feeling refreshed? Sugar is also more gentle on your skin that sand scrubs or certain types of salt scrubs.
We only used one drop of pink food coloring and one drop of blue food coloring in this scrub recipe. It just takes a little bit to get that unicorn-pretty pastel. For the brightest color, pick the "neon" variety of food coloring. You can make this Unicorn Sugar Scrub in any color you'd like.
Us? We were totally inspired by the Unicorn Magic Snack Packs and went with classic sky blue and puffy pink.
To give our scrub a light, natural fragrance, we added a few drops of essential oils. This is completely optional, but certainly makes it more aromatic and enjoyable when you smooth it on your skin. We used lemongrass oil in the pink and sweet orange oil in the blue.
Other essential oils that have skin benefits are lavender, frankincense, and chamomile. Use your own judgment based on any skin allergies you may have.
How to Make Sugar Scrub at Home:
- In a microwave-safe measuring cup or dish, microwave the coconut oil in 15 second increments, stirring each time, until it is completely melted.
- Divide the sugar evenly in two separate bowls.
- To the first bowl, add one drop of pink food coloring and 6 drops of desired essential oil.
- Pour half of the melted coconut oil over the top.
- Using a spoon, stir the mixture until the oil and color is evenly blended.
- Repeat steps 3-5 on the second bowl (blue).
- Layer the sugar in alternating colors in a clear, glass jar. Gently press each layer flat using the back side of the spoon.
- Layer until the jar is full (pink, blue, pink, blue) and seal tightly until use.
That's it. Super easy and just think of all the color and fragrance combinations you and your kids can create.
TO USE ON HANDS: Moisten your skin with warm water. Scoop out a generous amount of scrub and work into your hands. Gently massage into the back of your hands, focusing on the knuckles and dry areas. Rinse completely with warm water and pat dry. Apply your favorite moisturizer.
TO USE ON BODY: While in the bath or shower, wet your skin completely. Scoop out a generous amount of the sugar scrub and rub into areas that need exfoliation (feet, legs, knees, elbows). Rinse completely using very warm water and pat dry. Be very careful, the coconut oil can create slick surfaces!
Now that we are all pretty and scrubbed and fabulous, it is Snack Time. Grab a Unicorn Magic Snack Pack or two and enjoy. Because...unicorns! Be sure to look for the surprise Unicorn Tattoos inside. You can also go online and download free games for children ages 13 and up.
