Anyone that knows me knows how much I ADORE my sweet Corgi. As a matter of fact, I decided since the Queen of England always had a few around, I could have two. But this post is all about my handsome boy, Dewey. He's getting a little "fluffy" around the middle and lower to the ground, if you know what I mean. In this post we are going to share our experience with the Purina ONE® 28-Day Challenge.

Corgi's have a tendency to get overweight, and this combined with their short stature can cause long term health issues. Plus, we love to see Dewey happy and active instead of his normal napping. See below for his fave activity!
We made the switch to Purina ONE® Lamb & Rice in the 8 pound bags. The first thing I noticed is that he seemed fuller and more satisfied on LESS food. Which is a plus for us, because he has a tendency to over eat. Eating is his second favorite activity.
After Day 7, I noticed his energy levels. He was more bouncy and excited about going outside. Dewey actually gave up his coveted spot on the air conditioning vent to go romp in the yard with our other dogs. The SmartBlend of nutrition in every bag of Purina ONE helps support healthy energy in dogs.
By the end of the 28-Day Challenge, I know that Dewey is overall a healthier dog. The calcium in Purina One supports strong teeth and gums. Plus, real meat is the #1 ingredient which supports all of my sweetie's muscles and healthy heart. Every ingredient has a purpose.

Why we needed a Dog Food Container
In an effort to keep Dewey's weight managed, I feed him two small portions a day. But he seemed to keep gaining weight. I wasn't sure why because our family and neighbors know he is on a restricted eating schedule.
One night, after hearing rattling around in the utility room and some crinkling bags...I found him head deep in his dog food bag. Thus, the idea for this super cute (and easy) DIY Dog Food Container.
Not only does this bucket keep Dewey and our other pets out of the dog food, it deters other pests. Plus it keeps the food fresh. Keep reading to see how we did it in just a few hours.
Supplies needed to make a DIY Stenciled Dog Food Container:
- Metal bucket with lid
- Liquid dish detergent, vinegar, and warm water
- Green scrubby sponge and drying towel
- Newspaper or drop cloth
- Self-etching spray primer
- Good quality spray paint in the color(s) of your choice
- Stencils
- Scissors
- Painters' tape
- Foam brush
- Purina ONE to fill it up!
We had most of these items at home. We found the metal bucket with a locking lid and handle at Walmart, too. For our dog food container, we picked a pretty shade of matte mint with charcoal black for the stenciling.
TIP: You can also use a good quality acrylic paint for the stenciling. We used spray paint because that's what we had on hand. We used a method of spraying and pouncing.
How to Make a Dog Food Storage Container:
- First and most importantly, you must wash the bucket with detergent and warm water thoroughly. Wipe down with vinegar. Rinse and dry completely.
- Next, lightly spray the outside of the bucket and the lid with self-etching primer. Work in even coats. Dry to paint can directions. We used two very light coats of primer.
- Then, using your favorite base color, lightly spray the bucket evenly. Dry to paint can directions. We used three very light coats.
- Once the paint is dry to the touch, carefully position and affix your stencil using painters' tape.
- Next, using another color of paint, carefully fill in the stencil with a foam brush using small, light pouncing motions.
- Dry completely overnight.
- Finally, fill with dog food and cover with the lid.
Washing the bucket and wiping it down with vinegar makes sure it is clean before storing dog food. Plus, it removes any residue or dirt so the paint will stick better.
TIP: Use very light coats of paint to avoid drips. Plus, your paint job will dry faster this way.
Note: We only painted the outside of the bucket and the lid.
Isn't this the cutest thing ever? Ours had some little imperfections, but that is one of the beautiful things about DIY crafts. Pick your fave color to match your decor. Plus there are so many options and sizes and colors. You can make a smaller version for dog treats using small metal canisters. Because adorable.

painting is not toxic . ? or you applied a special coat ?

For this craft, I did NOT paint the inside of the bucket or the lid. I didn't want any paint coming off into the food. 🙂
